YWAM Rustenburg believes that one of the greatest lessons we can learn in life is to serve others, and to serve them well. There are a number of projects that we are involved in and students will receive ample opportunity to serve at these various locations during the duration of their D.T.S.

As a base we are committed to serving our local community, the nation of South Africa, and the world. YWAM Rustenburg officially began in 2006, but its base leaders, Derek and Rebecca have been an active part of the Rustenburg community since August 2002 working with community based projects and outreaches that directly affect people’s lives.

One such project is The Lighthouse Children’s Shelter. This non-profit registered “Place of Safety” began in July 2001 and since it’s inception has provided immediate care for children in crisis. In it’s first five years of ministry, this loving home has cared for more than 150 children providing them a place of refuge and hope until such time they were reunited with family or placed in Christian adoptive homes. Derek and Rebecca were privileged to serve for four years under the leadership of David and Janis who founded and directed the Lighthouse. YWAM Rustenburg continues to serve this project in any way we can.

Another primary area of ministry is in the village of Phokeng. Just minutes from downtown Rustenburg and a stone’s throw from the Royal Bafokeng Stadium where many major athletic games take place you will find numerous orphaned children living in child-led homes. Working together with members of the local community and one very special Bafokeng family, YWAM Rustenburg is committed to bringing Jesus to this community through His message of salvation and hands of compassion.

God has commissioned us to go into all nations to disciple them. We know therefore that God may send us to any of the hundreds of countries around the world. Where He sends us, is where we will go. Each school is different (with different teachers and focuses) and outreach locations vary from D.T.S to D.T.S.

Each D.T.S is shaped by God to train, equip and shape the students who are on that particular D.T.S.
